Sleeping Beauty - Review
Performed by the Watlington group - January 2020
Congratulations to Alexis Cheesman who directed a wonderfully heart-warming and magical children's pantomime, Sleeping Beauty in the Function Room of The Club in Watlington, on Saturday January 18th at 2 pm and 5 pm.
The cast of thirteen youngsters, between the ages of seven and eleven, have all been trained by Alexis at CatKids, her Amateur Theatre for Kids, and what a wonderful advert for the benefit for Drama classes they all were! The witty script, written by Mike Hurst, Alexis's father, allowed the children to express their creativity in song, dance, and confident acting which really engaged the audience. Their commitment , teamwork, and enthusiasm will stand them in good stead for the future.
All the young actors were very engaging, but Prince Barry in a Harry-Style wig, played by Aoife Duggan and, EthelMeghan, Sophie Cemm, gave very poised and eloquent performances.
Maleficent, the Punk witch, was confidently played by Bea Jacobs and, her side-kick, Mini Mal (just call her M ‘n M!) Katherine Balls, made us laugh at her asides. Dame Judi, Sophia Conejan-Smith, Will Shakespeare, played by Bertie Walker and Arthur Whiting as King EthelBurger were also very funny.
Alexis was assisted by Fabian Cheesman and her husband Nathan on Lights. Sound Design was by John Sennett. This excellent teamwork produced a magical pantomime.
